Who’s headed to L.A. next week for WESTEC? With a focus on the future of manufacturing technology and the workforce, you bet we’ll be there!

In fact, Tooling U-SME is presenting a series of workforce development & training sessions and we hope you can join us.

Many of you have asked about securing state workforce development funding, and the panel “Hidden Treasure: Getting your share of California training funds,” can provide excellent background whether you are based in California or elsewhere. Millions of dollars of new funding was released by the State of California for these initiatives. How do you get a piece of the pie? How does state funding work in general?

You also won’t want to miss, “FlexFactor: The Future of Advanced Manufacturing.” The demand for a technology savvy workforce is higher than ever. It is imperative to get ahead of this now by creating opportunities for companies and schools to engage young people with activities that get them excited about joining the future advanced manufacturing workforce. A program called FlexFactor does just this by blending entrepreneurship, technology, and project based learning into a rapidly growing success. You’ll learn lots of great tips on how to engage with the next generation of manufacturing workers.

Fuel up for the second half of your day on the 13th at the luncheon presentation: “Prepare for Launch: The Technology and Skills for Today’s Space Industry.” The space industry is harnessing a new generation of innovators to fuel its meteoric rise to the cosmos. But how do top companies find the tools and talent to soar? This star panel will discuss the technologies and opportunities allowing mankind to fly higher, reach farther, and travel faster – including what it takes for manufacturers to find people with the right skills to get us there.

I’m especially excited about the panel Apprenticeship: A Collaborative Approach ,” which I’m moderating. It’s on Thursday, September 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Advanced Manufacturing jobs like CNC machinists, programmers and engineers are projected to grow over 50 percent in the next 10 years. We’ll crack the code on how to collaborate with workforce, industry, and education. You’ll learn how partnerships and the California Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Collaborative (CAMAC) have led to an apprenticeship model with funding that addresses the workforce needs in advanced manufacturing – and how you can get involved. This is important learning for all manufacturers, no matter where you are based.

We hope you’ll come by one of the sessions – or visit the Tooling U-SME booth (#328) to let us know how we can help with your workforce development needs.

And, while you’re at the show, don’t forget to see the world’s first 3D printed electric car, which took 44 hours to complete and has only 50 individual parts vs. about 30,000 of traditional vehicles! It took an impressive skilled workforce to make that happen!
