decimal
| A dot that indicates "less than one." When reading a number with a decimal, read the decimal as "and." |

denominator
| Expression in the bottom location of a fraction below the fraction bar. |
|
diameter
| The distance from one edge of the circle to the opposite end through the center. |
|
dividend
| The quantity that a number is divided into. The dividend is in the numerator of a fraction. |
|
divisor
| The quantity by which a number is divided. The divisor is in the denominator of a fraction. |

fraction
| A number expressed as a/b. |
|
greatest common factor
| The highest number that can evenly divide into two numbers. |
|
improper fraction
| A fraction in which the numerator is larger than the denominator. An example of an improper fraction is 20/4. |
|
invert
| To reverse, or flip the order. When dividing fractions, you invert the denominator, or divisor, of the division problem. |
|
lowest common denominator
| The smallest possible denominator that can be shared by two fractions. |
|
lowest terms
| The lowest number that a numerator and denominator becomes when it is reduced by its greatest common factor. |
|
mixed number
| A number that is a whole number and a fraction. An example of a mixed number is 4 3/5. |

numerator
| Expression in the top location of a fraction, above the fraction bar. |
|
percent
| A fraction in which the denominator is 100. |
|
place value
| The location on the number grid where a digit appears in a number. Place values are expressed in values of ten. |
|
proportional
| A relationship between two values that expresses equality. |
|
remainder
| A number that is left over when a number does not divide evenly into another number. |
|
repeating decimal
| A number or a pattern of numbers that appears in a decimal and continues to repeat with no end. |
|
rounding
| A method used to shorten numbers. Rounding involves either increasing or decreasing a number to the next digit. |
|
whole number
| A number that is 1 or greater with no fractions or decimals. |
