A large North American manufacturer serving the aerospace, industrial and energy markets.

The Challenge

  • The company had shifted to a skilled-based pay program, with level "A," "B," and "C" machinists.
  • They needed a means for assessing knowledge and skills for each job role to accurately apply the new program.
  • They had difficulty finding people with the appropriate skills due to the scaling back of technical instruction in high schools.
  • They needed a simple solution and structure for implementing this program.

The Solution

  • Access to online training, mapped to company-specific competency models that organized training according to the A/B/C machinist levels.
  • Training in the areas of CNC machining, quality, inspection, safety, and supervisor/management training.
  • Employees had minimum test scores set to 75%, with on-the-job training (OJT) for skills-based components.

The Result

  • User feedback stated that training was up-to-date and relevant.
  • The program generated data regarding time spent training, test results and knowledge gain, allowing the company to implement the skills-based salary program.
