Job Description and General Requirements:
Tooling U plans to hire content developers and associate content developers to write original training materials for web-based classes on a variety of industrial topics. These are new positions added due to company growth. Content developers perform background research using a variety of manufacturing-based resources to develop class material. Content developers then interview and collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure the technical accuracy of content. Both content developers and associates participate in the process of developing online classes, which involves:
1. Writing, editing, and proofreading technical material that is clear, accurate, and concise.
2. Developing matching vocabulary definitions, test questions, etc.
3. Creating specifications for graphics, photos, video that correspond to class content.
4. Editing material written by other content developers and collaborating/sharing ideas with the writing staff.
5. Adhering to both internal and conventional style guides.
6. Speaking and reading a foreign language (helpful, but not essential).
7. Additionally, content developers are expected to demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaborate with graphic artists, SMEs, and other individuals outside the organization.
Educational Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Education, Instructional Design, or related technical field. An advanced degree is also preferred.
Computer Requirements:
1. Use Microsoft Office applications proficiently.
2. Manage basic HTML coding.
3. Create and process digital photos and videos (helpful, but not essential).
Experience Needed:
Content Developers require 2+ years experience in technical writing and/or creating training materials. However, Associate Content Developer positions are also available for entry-level candidates with less experience.
