What’s New at Tooling U?
Statistics Added to Shop Essentials Dept.
For those of you who really like Math (and who doesn’t?), Tooling U has just
launched Statistics 220 in our Shop Essentials department.
The new Statistics class is an intermediate-level class that builds on the
knowledge learned in our Shop Math class and covers the main concepts of
statistics while relating these concepts to shop situations. Our Statistics
class will also be a prerequisite for a future class on introductory SPC.
Current Tooling U subscribers can add the Statistics class to their schedules
now.

Since the launch of our first Spanish-language class at IMTS 2002, we
have continued to add new translations. You now can find more than 20
classes translated into Spanish, including audio voice-overs. We are committed

What to watch for:
BookStore Launching on a Personal Computer Near You
In fact, the Tooling U BookStore is launching on a PC that is, well, at your
fingertips right now. And while you will not find a copy of the second printing
of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, you will
soon find dozens of books on metalworking, lean manufacturing, quality control,
plastic injection molding, and many other topics.

e-alert when the BookStore goes live. And watch for a limited-time free offer
from the BookStore.
Online Employee Assessments Site Going
Live Soon
A number of companies have told us that they are looking for cost-effective
knowledge assessments for their employees. Tooling U recently completed
the instructional design and tech development for a new basic
machining skills test.
This online assessment tool consists of approximately 90 questions and is
set up in sections covering shop math skills, blueprint reading, metal cutting
operations, abrasives and grinding operations, materials and heat-treating,
measurement and inspection, and workholding.
Companies may purchase online tests for their employees and receive a
knowledge gap evaluation and recommendation of remediation through training
within specific Tooling U classes.
Tooling U Assessments will be available at an introductory price of $49.95, and
for a limited time, that fee can be applied to the employee’s subscription to
Tooling U.

The NIMS Online Testing Site Beta Project Is
Nearing Completion
Jim Wall, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Metalworking Skills
(NIMS), has been criss-crossing the country more than usual at this time of
year conducting beta tests of the NIMS online testing site for NIMS
certifications. We are happy to report that, other than a few tweaks here and
there, the online testing site will go live as scheduled in time for the new
school year. Click here
