New Classes Launched at Tooling U

1) TS 16949:2002 Overview 220: TS 16949 is an ISO Technical Specification, which aligns existing automotive quality system requirements within the global automotive industry. This class compares ISO 9001:2000 and TS 16949:2002 and explains how their differences affect the standard operating procedures in a quality management system.

2) Inspecting with CMMs 220: Quality assurance in today’s global manufacturing operations depends increasingly on the performance of coordinate measuring machines. CMMs have replaced traditional methods of inspection and have reduced the time and manpower required in quality control operations. This class compares the advantages and common uses of various CMM components and software applications like DCC.

3) CAD/CAM Overview 160: This class describes the general process of using computers to design and manufacture parts, and identifies common features available in CAD/CAM software.

4) Creating a Milling Program 290: This class explains the key components in the creation and execution of a simple milling program.

Attend the Student Summit at IMTS 2004

The Student Summit at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS 2004) will be held once again in Chicago this September 8th-15th. The Student Summit focuses on career opportunities, orientation on the state of manufacturing technology, and introduction to emerging technologies like nanotechnology and biotechnology, as well as the opportunity to interface with industry representatives and other students already on a career path in manufacturing technology. You can find out more about the Student Summit at www.imtsnet.org.

This year’s IMTS will also include something a little extra to keep the attention of students, as well as all IMTS attendees. The cable channel TLC® will bring its Emmy-nominated television series "Junkyard Wars™" to the Lakeside Center at McCormick Place during IMTS. Students will work in teams and have a true hands-on experience and learn about the effects of gravity, physics, engineering, and aerodynamics while building and racing cars they have made out of re-purposed junk.

Surely, students will come away from IMTS with excitement and a positive outlook on manufacturing as a career option.
