What’s New at Tooling U?

Quality Classes
What is your company doing to improve quality and reduce scrap while you run lean? Check out the newest class in our Quality Department: Lean Manufacturing. And watch for the release of our class on Internal Auditing in the coming weeks.

Intermediate Grinding Classes
We have recently added beginner classes to our new Abrasives Department. Keep your eyes open for more advanced grinding classes, including a new Grinding Variables class that tackles the various forms of grinding feeds and speeds. The next class scheduled is Grinding Wheel Materials, which will address the types of grain materials and bonds, including superabrasives such as diamond and CBN.

Full Range of CNC and Metal Cutting Topics
Our most popular classes are the CNC and metal cutting classes. We now offer these classes at the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels, including topics such as milling geometry, high-speed machining, manual programming, and canned cycles.

Tooling U en Español!
Since the launch of our first Spanish language class at IMTS 2002, we have continued to add new translations. You now can find more than a dozen classes translated into Spanish, including audio voice-overs. We are committed to translating all of our classes into Spanish as we go along. Contact us about subscribing to Spanish language classes.

New Inspection Department
Do you want to learn the principles behind calibration? Do you need to learn how to use a CMM? Tooling University is developing a new Inspection Department. Our new inspection classes will cover calibration, surface measurements, hardness testing, optical inspection, and more. On the near horizon is a new Coordinates for the CMM class. Contact us if you would like to receive an e-mail when Tooling U launches the Inspection Department.

What to watch for:

Online Testing for Certifications Through NIMS
NIMS (http://www.nims-skills.org ), the National Institute for Metalworking Skills, has contracted with Tooling U to build an online testing site for the NIMS skills certification process. The site is going into beta testing with a few organizations around the country in May and will be available for live online testing later in the summer.

Assessment Testing
A number of companies have told us that they are looking for cost-effective pre-employment screening tests or knowledge assessments for their current employees. To help these companies, we are in the process of developing an online assessment test from our large pool of testing questions. Stay tuned for this new assessment tool, which will be available separately from our current training site.
