Web-Based
Training Now a Reality
On-line training has received a major
boost with an initiative byjergens, Inc. that offers on-demand, Web-based
training for shop-floor personnel on through to management-level staff. Tooling
University is organized like a traditional university and includes such
disciplines as work holding, metal forming, materials and materials handling.
Faculty members respond to student questions via e-mail and electronic
forums on the ToolingU website.
Sessions can be scheduled around
production requirements or personal changes. Because it is web-based, training
is infinitely scaleable and portable. Training from Tooling U is accountable
with progress on each employee monitored.
Detailed instructions on a course use
audio, text, photographs and illustrations that are supplemented by full-motion
video, pop-up keyword glossaries and links to relevant websites. For students
with slow Internet connections, supplemental multi-media CD-ROMs are supplied.
