Dearborn, Mich. – January 31,
2003 –
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is pleased to announce its agreement with Tooling University, Cleveland, Ohio, providing SME members with complete access and discounts to the Tooling U’s 60 on-line learning classes.
Tooling University provides beginner and immediate-level classes in shop-floor basics, machining principles, CNC part programming, metalforming, tool set-up and fixturing, and quality assurance. Classes are mapped to the standards established by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). They round out the SME LearningCenter’s (
www.sme.org/learningcenter
) product portfolio with its more than 1,100 other courses that cover areas of interest to manufacturing managers and engineers.
Said Ed McCallum, director of SME’s Business Development Group, “Tooling University is a growing organization with excellent technical content. In addition to its existing courses, nearly 30 new courses are under development. This is another example of SME’s commitment to providing our membership with access to “best-in-class” information and resources.”
The agreement also provides that SME, recognized as a leading resource for manufacturing information, will establish reciprocal links with Tooling University’s Web site. This easy access will provide students with an opportunity to join SME, enjoy its membership benefits, some of which include access to technical information from Manufacturing Engineering and Forming & Fabricating magazines. SME members will be eligible for a 10 percent discount off the regular price. With delivery capabilities including the Internet, Internet-enabled machine tool controls and Pocket PCs, Tooling University classes can be delivered via the SME LearningCenter and Tooling University’s Learning Management anytime, anywhere, from nearly any device.
SME’s LearningCenter and Tooling University provide the highest quality, interactive e-learning opportunities for professionals at all stages of the manufacturing process – from machine operators, to other shop floor personnel, to executives. Training content is delivered using text, photos, video, audio, and illustrations in a concise instructional design format. Also available are resources like department faculty, an interactive dictionary, a bookstore and links to an archive of articles and technical information from SME publications including Manufacturing Engineering and Forming and Fabricating and other leading industry magazines.
