Tooling University Expands Online Industrial Training to include Welding Classes

CLEVELAND, OH – June 3, 2004– Tooling University®, (Tooling U®), today announced an expansion of its online industrial training programs including welding classes developed in partnership with The Lincoln Electric Company. The welding classes now available include¬ training for the following key functions: following safety precautions, understanding electrical variables and equipment, choosing joint and weld types, selecting the correct electrode and shielding gas, knowing the properties of common weld metals, performing shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), performing gas metal arc welding (GMAW), performing flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), performing gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).

“Vocational schools and shop maintenance departments asked us to expand our course offerings to include welding”, said Greg Herlevi, Senior Instructional Designer of Tooling University. “Our online training provides the tools for manufacturing companies and schools to 1) assess student needs, 2) train, and 3) measure student improvement.”

Tooling University provides on-demand web-based training to industrial manufacturing companies and educational institutions. Disciplines include courses in metal cutting, metal forming, materials, workholding, CNC and others. Courses are intended to provide “real-world, roll-up-your-sleeves” content as a superior alternative to traditional training techniques such as seminars, text-based or video-based approaches.

Tooling U students participate in classes that exploit the Internet’s capabilities. Detailed instruction using audio, text, photographs, and illustrations are supplemented by full motion video, pop-up keyword glossaries, and links to relevant websites. Comprehensive assessment and measurement tools are available for management.
