Tooling University Partners with Kennametal to Launch Metal Cutting Certification Program

Cleveland, Ohio – Tooling University, an online provider of manufacturing training, has partnered with Kennametal to launch an online Certified Metalcutting Professional (CMP) Program. Kennametal is a leading global producer of carbide and advanced cutting tools. Since 1999, the Kennametal Knowledge Center has delivered face-to-face courses to help companies reduce costs and increase productivity. While Kennametal continues to develop this curriculum, it must also provide other options. With this new partnership, Kennametal and Tooling University have created a series of online courses that Kennametal will offer to its own salespeople, as well as its sizable customer base. In addition, over 250 Kennametal sales representatives are selling Tooling University's core classes to this customer base.

"We are truly excited to be partnering with Tooling University for our e-learning CMP program. We know when we combine Kennametal's metalcutting expertise with Tooling University's industry leading platform for e-learning, the program will be exceptional," stated Jim Kasperik, Manager of the Kennametal Knowledge Center.

Tooling University has established itself as a leader in industrial training. However, the company also benefits from the level of expertise that Kennametal brings to the partnership. According to Tom Barrett, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Tooling University, "The big benefit of this agreement is that the leading manufacturer in the market chose to partner with us. Kennametal sells to Fortune 50 companies as well as to small shops, so basically the breadth and depth of what they're selling is what we're selling."

Kennametal's CMP Program is divided into three major sections: General Principles, Turning Center Processes, and Machining Center Processes. The new certification program is designed for working engineers and other metalcutting professionals involved in tool management, tool selection, process optimization, CNC Programming, and troubleshooting. Individuals who complete the program with an 80% score or higher on Final Exams can obtain CMP certification.

Already, more than 500 Kennametal sales representatives are taking the online courses for CMP certification. The courses contain a variety of interactive tools, such as interactive note-taking, pop-up definitions, simulations, interactive exercises, and administration tools to track course progress.

Kennametal is a leading global supplier of tooling, engineered components, and advanced materials that are consumed in production processes. They provide customers with a broad range of technologically advanced tools, tooling systems, and engineering services.
