ADMINISTRATOR LMS FAQ

Where can I see my student’s passwords?

As an administrator, security reasons prevent you from seeing student passwords; you may only reset them.

How long does a course take to complete?

On average, a Tooling U-SME course takes approximately one hour to take the pretest, the class, and the final exam. This estimate may vary depending on your students’ knowledge of the material and familiarity with computers.

Does a student need to take the prerequisites listed for a course?

The prerequisites listed for a course are simply a list of recommended courses that could be taken. They are not required in our system, and it is at your discretion if you would like your students to take them or not.

Where can I see my student’s user name?

If you hover over the student’s name on the Student List page, you will see his or her user name (student ID). You can also click on an individual student and see the user name on the individual student report on the right-hand side. You can export your Student List, which will include all of the students’ user names.

Does the system have automatic notifications?

The system can email you a notification when a student fails a class, completes a class, logs in, completes a competency, registers, sends a Tooling U-SME message, or needs a competency item approved. We currently do not have proactive messages for items like classes that are due in the next week, expiring accounts, or automatic report generations.

How can I see my student’s cut score?

You can view the cut score for a student’s classes by clicking on the student name in the Student List. Once you are on the Individual Student Report, scroll to the section titled Course Progress. The cut score is listed in center of the table.

Can I look at classes without having a student account?

Yes, as an administrator you can preview classes. You can navigate the class like a student would, but without access to the pre-test or final exam. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the Student List to the Tools & Options section. In the center column under Courses about half-way down you will see a magnifying glass with a link to preview courses. Simply click Preview Courses, and the entire Tooling U-SME online catalog is available for you to preview.

Can I change a student user ID and information?

Once a user ID has been created, it cannot be changed. You can update the student’s name and other information like password, title, address, phone number, and email on the Account Information section located on the top right of the Individual Student Report.
